Selection of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome for participation in the Venice Biennale in 2011

At the Venice Biennale 2011, at the proposal of prof. Vittorio Sgarbi, Commissioner of the Italian Pavilion, was designed the construction of an exhibition with the works of young artists trained in academies of fine arts in the last decade 2000-2010, to be set up in a prestigious area yet to be identified, in Venice.
The exhibition aims to give particular visibility to the research and artistic production, the prerogatives of the Institutions of Higher Education, in a unique opportunity in an international event like the Venice Biennale, to give evidence excellence of experimentation in the field of visual arts (painting, sculpture, photography, graphics, video, installations).

MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AFTER PROT.N. of Notice 16923/D3 OF 12/16/2010 (Venice Biennale 2011-Draft participation of the Academy of Fine Arts).

On January 19, 2011, at 11:30 am convened the Commission for the evaluation of the applications in question.

Present Professors. D'Acchille, Lo Russo, Landi, Salvi, Siena. Prof. Landi replaces Professor Casorati.

The Commission, chaired by prof. Lo Russo, Professor D'Acchille indicates how the function of secretary and acquired by the secretary a list prot.n. 653/D3 applications received in the time limit set out in the 16.12.2010.

Professor D'Acchille will report to the Committee on the work of young artist Stefano Mosena and asked to add its records to the parcel already received. The Commission rejected the request of Professor D'Acchille why such documentation is not received within the terms of the notice of 16.12.2010. Before the opening of proposals, it reiterates the need to consider only applications received within the time and already included in the list. All others received as described in the notice means excluded from evaluation. The committee members agree on whether to evaluate the curricula of individual candidates for verifying that each curriculum, but the date of graduation. In particular, we believe that priority should be given to candidates who have achieved levels of excellence or otherwise of high quality, regardless of the chosen artists, and offering an appropriate curriculum than expected from the ministerial note prot. 506/segr/Afam of 18.11.2010.

While considering the difficulty of find in the record of former graduates from a few years evidence to show activity had already been recognized by critics "accredited" on national and international level, the Board states that successful applicants will:

1) necessarily have achieved solo or participated in group exhibitions, set up institutional spaces in galleries or credited by critics ;

2) possibly have won national awards and / or participated in international and qualified residences;

3) have to their credit reviews and texts on their work published in national and international journals.

Based on the above criteria shall open the envelopes.

It makes a first selection, excluding those documents do not comply the criteria described above.

At day 18 of 19.01.2011 will interrupt the work and storing the material in sealed containers. The proceedings of the resume on January 24 at 9.

It takes notice of all material submitted in both paper and digital form, they read the resumes of all candidates and benchmark the literature. After careful evaluation of all applications and following extensive discussion, the committee agreed unanimously to report the following candidates:

The Director also proposes to list the name of the candidate Denis Gagliardi. The Commission, after careful reading of the curriculum vitae and documentation submitted by the candidate Gagliardi, does not consider the proposal of the Director to be acceptable and therefore refrains from the trial. The Director, considering the work of the candidate rather than valid according to his artistic career, his privilege states the opportunity to indicate the name of the candidate and then assumes the responsibility to add to the list at number 20:
